1950s
Humble Beginnings
In 1952, Brian Baum and Malcom Hall founded Hall & Baum Plumbing in Camden Park. Specialising in new homes and small construction projects, their reputation for quality workmanship, integrity, and reliability quickly spread across Adelaide.

1970S–1980S
Family Legacy & Early Growth
- In 1978, Malcom Hall retired, leaving the Baum family to continue the legacy.
- By 1979, Brian’s son Grant joined the business after completing his apprenticeship with Hansen & Yunken and working as a head estimator. He was soon followed by his brother Greg in 1981.
- The company expanded into larger-scale work, including construction services for Delfin Property Group (West Lakes, Tennyson, and Delfin Island).
- Hall & Baum also grew into maintenance plumbing, investing in visibility with a full-page Yellow Pages ad.
This was the start of Hall & Baum becoming one of Adelaide’s best-known plumbing companies.

1980S–1990S
Innovation & Expansion
Hall & Baum set itself apart by introducing industry-leading innovations:
- 1982: Adelaide Pipeline Maintenance services was born. APMS, the company brought in South Australia’s first commercially built hydro-jet machine.
- 1995: Imported a Jet-Vac from the US — one of only two in the state.
- 1997: Purchased the first robotic CCTV drain camera system in South Australia, revolutionising how underground plumbing was managed.
At the same time, the business grew through strategic acquisitions of respected firms such as Thompson Brothers Plumbing, Tyrell & Dawson, Sims Hot Water, Alan’s Hot Water & Hydro-jet, and Percy Priest Plumbing.
By the late ’80s, Hall & Baum had become trusted service agents for Hardy Dux Hot Water and Solahart, and even launched their own hot water business, Mr Hot Water.

2000S
Regional Reach & New Ventures
The business expanded beyond Adelaide, opening depots in Mildura (2000) and Portland (2004) to service regional clients.
In 2005, Hall & Baum cemented its presence with locations across Adelaide — north, south, and central — ensuring reliable plumbing coverage for homes and businesses.

2010s
The Third Generation Joins
The Baum family legacy continued with the third generation stepping into the business:
- 2013: Rachael Baum, Gregs daughter joined to manage accounts.
- 2014: Ryan Baum, Grants son began working alongside his father and uncle after completing his apprenticeship at Jordan Plumbing.
Hall & Baum also created Streamline Plumbing in 2013 to service the Government housing sector.

2020S
Sustainability & the Future
- In 2022, the company launched Green Hot Water, a division dedicated to helping South Australians reduce their carbon footprint through sustainable hot water solutions.
- In 2024, Greg and Grant Baum stepped down, handing leadership to Ryan and Rachael, marking a new era for Hall & Baum as a proudly third-generation family business.
- In 2025, the Hall & Baum Group began the journey towards ISO Accreditation, ensuring world-class standards in quality, safety, and environmental performance.

2025
Today
From its humble beginnings in Camden Park to becoming one of Adelaide’s largest and most respected plumbing firms, Hall & Baum has remained family-owned, community-focused, and innovation-driven. With over 70 years of history and three generations of Baums at the helm, the business continues to evolve while staying true to the values it was built on.
